How well do the people of Malaysia speak English? - lonely planet malaysia
I will soon travel to Malaysia and I have no word from Malaysia! The way the people in Malaysia speak English? I am also equipped with a Lonely Planet phrasebook and asked me whether it is sufficient or whether a CD, where I'd get to hear native speakers of Malay.

Salamat Datang!
You'll be everywhere - that is, Welcome!
We went on holiday to Spain last year and had no problem at all. We spent our time in KL and then visited Terengannu the other side of the peninsula, they were in the cities and not on the field. English is spoken almost everywhere across the country, everyone is learning English as a second language. The ads in stores and advertisements in the streets will be written in Malay and English and sometimes in Chinese, because they could have a large population of Chinese origin. Shops, restaurants, taxis, the streets, we found that we had no problems at all. There were many small shops or traffic, but only once, when choosing a shirt on the side of the road, we find that the elderly owner could not speak English, but was not a problem anyway. I always learn something of the language, if you have a new country, but do not bother to take the time to make to Malaysia, without remorse. Unless the intention of walking in nature, I am sure it will benice!
Have a great time!

I have some friends in Malaysia and was told that English is widely distributed and because education is part of the British colony, but the official national language is Malay, of course, but most of them speak English, because in the school with a different language to learn (Mandarin and Tamil)
So do not worry just have fun-_-XD
As for the Malays - I know some basic phrases - but the thing is a person who taught me in from Indonesia - and it is in Indonesia, but said that most words are similar to those that Malaysia has its roots in the Indonesian language;
Apa Kabar - Whats up
Apa - What
Tidak ada Crimea - there was no ice
Saya tidak senang - I'm unhappy (saya = I / A = Tidak / senang happy =)
terimakasih, Saya sudah kenyang - thank you, but I'm tired
Bukan yang sama Kue Coklat - not even chocolate cake
Saya suka Coklat Kue - I love chocolate cake-_ --
I know .. LMAO I was asked something more useful, but meh
Bill, you will have no problem Malaysians speak good English here. They speak English love for you. LOL. I doubt you will ever need your phrase book. To listen to native speakers of Malay is here an audio book designed to all know supermodels Malay. All the best for your trip!
90% of Malaysians can speak and understand English, in contrast to our northern neighbors. Traffic signals, signs, signals, etc. are mostly in English and Malay. Most restaurants, fast food restaurants to use English in their specialties. Malaysia has more than 70% of TV channels showing English. So do not worry, just enjoy your visit.
I am a Malaysian and I think you need not worry because almost everyone can understand, basic knowledge of English and I think that 50% do not speak very good English.
Welcome to Malaysia:) Where will you go on the road? East or West Malaysia Malaysia?
I'm from Miri, Sarawak.
English is the language since 2 Malaysia Malaysia is a multiracial country, so I think most Malaysians can understand basic knowledge of English, although some of them do not speak very well. It really depends on if you intend to go. If you are in big cities like Kuala Lumpur, then no problem .. Most people can communicate in English, or can not accommodate them, they ask if they understand English, and if they say they require just as you want to know.
But if you are planning a family at home and go to rural areas, like men, or it could be some problems, but there will be someone there who can communicate in English.
and if you plan to go to Borneo (Sabah and Sarawak), I think most people who speak good English.
eventho know Malay is not a big problem, but I think you should try to learn. Any citizen of another country would be satisfied if they welcome or speak their own language eventho that a sentence is not it? I do not know whatPhrase Book Lonely Planet, but please, if you decided to buy a book (only bought the simplest of common phrases useful s) is not always, a purchase of Indonesia. eventho language have similarities, they differ in the use of Malay in Malaysia and it sounds a bit strange for them. and if u want to welcome you, just say hello or higher, and is that a lot.
Examples of simple sentences Malay --
Good Morning - Selamat pagi
Good day - Selamat Hari Tengah
Can you help me? - Tolong Saya boleh kamu?
How are you? - Khabar APA?
can speak English? - Boleh kah dalam Bahasa bercakap Inggeris Awak?
You can buy a CD, if desired, Tho is not enough, but it will be useful, because the debate a little Malay languange than English.
only a small tip, if you go to find people who can communicate in English, too, to the Chinese people as .. speaks good English, but that does not mean that the Malays and Indians are good in English, are very good, but only certain practices in ChinaTice English as main language.
Hope that helps ^ ^
BTW I want a good time in Malaysia)
